Introduction
Hello and welcome to Simple Sustainability!
My ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) primer built on chronicling the beginnings of my academic and professional sustainability journey.
As someone who has always been passionate about the environment and tackling climate change head-on, but didn’t exactly have a background in climate science or engineering, it felt pretty daunting to figure out where to begin when I wasn’t even sure where to start.
Imagine this: I’m a graduate student at Columbia University, pursuing my degree in Sustainability Analytics, ready to dive headfirst into the world of saving the world. But as soon as I got started, I felt like I was thrown into the deep end without a lifejacket. Classes jumped right into complicated concepts and detailed analyses, leaving me feeling like I was treading water just to keep up. I simply could not even begin to measure potential impacts to the the energy grids, when I didn’t even fully understand what the energy grid is or the basics of how it worked? It was overwhelming, to say the least.
But that’s the thing about sustainability – it’s a constantly evolving field, and there’s always something new to learn. So, with a little perseverance and a lot of coffee, I was able to gain a deeper understanding of these concepts. And now, I’m excited to share that knowledge with you!
I want this website to be the go-to resource for anyone who is eager to make a positive impact on our planet but isn’t sure where or how to start. Use this site as a way to get accessible and foundational knowledge on the science behind climate change, designed for the everyday person.
Mission Statement
Lorem ipsum, or lipsum as it is sometimes known, is dummy text used in laying out print, graphic or web designs. The passage is attributed to an unknown typesetter in the 15th century who is thought to have scrambled parts of Cicero’s De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum for use in a type specimen book. It usually begins with:
“Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.”
The purpose of lorem ipsum is to create a natural looking block of text (sentence, paragraph, page, etc.) that doesn’t distract from the layout. A practice not without controversy, laying out pages with meaningless filler text can be very useful when the focus is meant to be on design, not content.
